Venting Condensing Boilers
This course is designed for those who want to learn about the proper venting options for condensing boilers focusing on the Buderus, Lochinvar, and Viessmann product lines. It will cover CPVC, polypropylene and stainless venting products. We will discuss the features and benefits of each of these flue venting products.
Basic Hydronic Design
This course is designed for those who want a basic understanding of Hydronic System design. It will cover topics such as reading a heat loss and gain calculation and knowing where to apply its results. What are the various hydronic system types: radiant, hydro-air, radiators, chillers, geothermal, snowmelt etc. We will also cover some of the basic laws of thermodynamics so that you can develop an understanding of the various ways that heat can be transferred. You will also learn the difference between outdoor rest and mixing as it related to hydronic system design.
Advanced Hydronic Design
This course is a continuation of the Basic Hydronics Design course described above. You will take the lessons learned from the basic course and designed a modern hydronic heating system. You will size and select the proper boiler, chiller or geothermal heat pump and select the proper piping, pumps and mixing devises to complete the selected design. You will also learn how to read the output charts, on various heat emitters, and select the proper one for your application. This class will also introduce you to the new variable speed ECM pump products that are revolutionizing the HVAC industry.
Hydronic Water Treatment
This course is designed for those who want to learn about the proper methods for removing air, dirt, hardness and ferrous materials from our hydronic system fill water so that our pumps and equipment work a long, efficient and low maintenance life cycle. In addition, you will learn about the new products that are available to insure proper fill water chemistry as you are filling a system and the proper inhibitors to use to prevent future corrosion.
Basic A/C Superheat & Subcooling
This course is designed for those who want to learn more about Principles of Air Conditioning. It will cover the basic refrigeration cycle components and their roles, heat transfer, refrigeration Temperature and Pressure relationships and how Superheat and Subcooling are used to determine proper system charge on traditional A/C systems. You will also learn the key differences between the traditional unitary A/C equipment and the new inverter compressor heat pumps. The class will also cover the essential requirements of a proper ductless heat pump installation and what tools are needed to accomplish these installs.
Heat Loads
This course is designed for those who want to learn about heat gain and heat loss calculations. What factors go into a buildings loss/gain calculation, how to measure and record the proper information and determine the best equipment for the application.
Control Wiring
This course is designed for those who want a basic understanding of electricity and how it is applied in the HVAC industry. It will cover basic circuitry and components such as relays, transformers, switches, and loads. If time permits, some trouble shooting techniques and wiring schematics will be discussed. Multi Meters are welcome but not a necessity.
Snow Melting
This course will cover all aspects of snow melt systems including design, piping, and controls. The class will include a live fire of Capco’s installed snow melt system going over the Tekmar 654 control set up and programming.
Basic Geothermal Design
This course will focus on the piping and design of geothermal system components, open vs. closed wells, indoor equipment selection, C.O.P.’s, chilled water vs. condenser loop applications and variable speed ECM system pumping.
DHW Storage Tank Sizing
This course is designed for those who want to learn about sizing domestic hot water storage tanks and what factors go into these calculations. Piping options with condensing boilers will be discussed as well.
Lochinvar KHN/WHN Service & Maintenance
This course is designed for those who want to learn service and maintenance of Lochinvar’s KHN floor mounted and WHN wall mounted, fire-tube boilers. This class will take apart a WHN boiler here at Capco or at FIA if class size requires. We will also review the programming and troubleshooting features of both controls.
Viessmann Vitodens 300 CU3A & 222 Combi
This course is designed for those who want to learn more about Viessmanns Vitodens 300 floor mounted condensing boiler and their 222 combi with built-in 26 gallon storage tank. You will see why this is the best in class combi on the market today. This class will be taught by Viessmann personnel.
